KENNEWICK, Wash. — Drones flew into town today. Tomorrow, pilots are off to the races.
FPV Racing Seattle has brought the Multi-GP Great Northwest Regional Finals to the Tri-Cities, where drone pilots qualify for the National Championship.
Tomorrow, adults and kids can come down to Columbia Park and check out the fastest growing sport in the world. You can even experience a “ride along” by wearing goggles to see a drone race from a pilot’s view.
Competition sponsor and partner Thrust UAV develops educational drone systems to teach valuable lessons to kids competing in an adrenaline-pumping sport. They hope to make an impact on the young community this weekend.
“We actually partner with Multi-GP and this is a Multi-GP sanctioned event to connect with new people from schools here,” explained EJ Duarti, Director of R & D for Thrust UAV. “It gives us the chance to explain to people what a drone STEM platform looks like, how it works, and how excited kids are to learn to build a drone and fly a drone. “
Races are free to the public and run 10 a.m. through 4 p.m.
